This historical Psalm was evidently composed by King David, for Psa_105:1-15 of it were used as a hymn at the carrying up of the ark from the house of Obed-edom, and we read in 1Ch_16:7. “Then on that day David delivered first this Psalm, to thank the Lord, into the hand of Asaph and his brethren.”
Short petitions and single verses of hymns are often the best for public occasions, but there are seasons when a whole night of wrestling or an entire day of Psalm singing will be none too long. The Spirit is ever free in his operations, and is not to be confined within the rules of conventional propriety. The wind bloweth as it listeth, and at one time rushes in short and rapid sweep, while at another it continues to refresh the earth hour after hour with its reviving breath.
“Talk ye of all his wondrous works,” נפלאתין niphleothaiv, “of his miracles.” Who have so many of these to boast of as Christians! Christianity is a tissue of miracles; and every part of the work of grace on the soul is a miracle. Genuine Christian converts may talk of miracles from morning to night; and they should talk of them, and recommend to others their miracle-working God and Savior. - Adam Clarke.
The lord was impressing on my mind and heart, to not only tell people about salvation, but a testimony of past and present miracles. I just had an encounter the other day with a young man, he was saved, I started to talk and felt the lord say,' tell him a miracle story' and so I did, it seemed a small thing to me, not the miracle, but the conversation. The plain simple fact of a divine miracle that happened, so blew this young mans heart away, he clapped, laughed, he almost fell down, it lit. blew his mind, as I walked away towards the market, I could hear him the 100 yards or so, praising the lord, shouting, excited and on I heard him rejoice till I entered the store. Lessons hear.
This Psalm speaking of remembering past miracles and deliverances of the lord, the mighty works of the holt spirit, are the only thing we are to look back on, all else we are told, I no longer look behind, but ahead, this is meaning sins, failures, etc. but miracles, wonders, moves of the lords spirit, his graces, deliverances, on these we must reflect on and set up sign posts on the road as these will serve to solidify our situation we are in. The lord did it in the past, he will do it again, and he changes not.
With so many bad things going on, and so many birth pains, suffering, questions, we must not forget, the ARK is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, the very presence of the lord, it is now in us, we are the temple of the holy spirit are we not, that is why the title is, the ark with wings and the temple with feet. Where we go, the lord goes. The lord will prompt you with the inner voice of his sprit, he will say go there, do this, say that, don’t go there, do not say that, remember, yes remember what I did in the past, I am the same, have faith and walk in confidence no matter how bad tings get. This psalm recounts the many graces, miracles the lord did, and it is fitting King David would sing this psalm upon the arrival of the ARK, the presence of Jehovah.
To us this speaks of spiritual renewal, to be refilled with the spirit, to anticipate yet again the wonders and miracles of our lord. We should also, as I just learned tell others of the mighty works of the lord, you have no idea what effect it may have on the one you are telling it to. It may be just what they need to hear.
Maybe it has been a long time since you had a holy spirit encounter, a revelation, or seen a miracle, maybe all has become dull from fear, remember, yes remember, then go out and tell, tell others, in doing so, you just may see the lords grace start to move you further on, if the thorn remains grace and strength will match it. Our lord still sets up a standard against all floods against his holy bride.
נפלאתין niphleothaiv, “of his miracles, we are to tell others of these past miracles, they are faith builders in the one hearing them, and you, the one telling them.
I am not saying live in the past, nor get stuck on living a life that is nothing but past miracles and the good old days, that is the danger of a great experience, we have one, settle for it and camp out there the rest of our life.
The lord has much more in store for his elect, we are seeing so much evil, if we could only see in faith what the lord is doing before us in guidance and protection. We are his ark with wings and temple with feet on this earth, we are his and he is ours, we can expect a great move of the lord now and in the coming hard days, so start flying O’ ARK of the lord, start walking O’ Temple of the Spirit, there is much to be done, a song to be sung, and what better song to motivate us to this task and renewal than psalms 105
