Law Vrs. Grace Part 2-Jesus Was The Only High Priest From The Tribe Of Judah

Heb 7:1  For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

Heb 7:2  To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

Heb 7:3  Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Heb 7:4  Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

Heb 7:5  And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

Heb 7:6  But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

Heb 7:7  And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

Heb 7:8  And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

Heb 7:9  And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

Heb 7:10  For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

Heb 7:11  If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Heb 7:12  For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

Heb 7:13  For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

Heb 7:14  For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

Heb 7:15  And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

Heb 7:16  Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

Heb 7:17  For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Heb 7:18  For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

Heb 7:19  For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

Heb 7:20  And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

Heb 7:21  (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

Heb 7:22  By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

Heb 7:23  And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

Heb 7:24  But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

Heb 7:25  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Heb 7:26  For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

Heb 7:27  Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

Heb 7:28  For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.


Hebrews 7:13

For he of whom these things are spoken - That is, Jesus the Messiah, spoken of in Psa_110:4, who came, not from the tribe of Levi, but from the tribe of Judah, of which tribe no priest ever ministered at a Jewish altar, nor could minister according to the law.

This is an amazing message, what a revelation the writer of Hebrews gives us concerning the old law and the new covenant.

The most amazing of all, and this shows the absolute change from the O.T. law to N.T. grace is, Jesus the High Priest was from the tribe of Judah, and in the O.,T. law this was forbidden

A very radical change took place and shows us what was lacking in the O.T. laws. The first and only Priest ever from this blessed tribe, it broke from the O.T. law, what can one say a bought that, Jesus , before his death and resurrection said, he came not to abolish the laws or prophets, but here he did, he was God and had the right to mess the old theology up to the core.

The message of Christ was radical, different than anything the Jews had ever heard, much was so wild it was beyond belief to them, This is because the Lord our God, is different than man, many things as any Talmud and such are man made additives to the true law, mans religion, not the lords true revelation.

The sermon on the mount was so radical, it totally messed with the Jews theology. The lord is still doing this today and why?

We must learn it is all by grace, salvation by faith alone and nothing else.

The Church is deep in legalism, this is not the Gospel message, we have many things we must obey, but man mad legalism has harmed and damaged more Christians than anything else. Man always does this.

We are to be pleasers of God not man, but many want it both ways and this is not possible.

Gal 3:1  O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

Gal 3:2  This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Gal 3:3  Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Gal 3:4  Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

Gal 3:5  He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

The Apostle Paul learned this message well, as before he converted to Christianity, he was a Pharisee above Pharisee’s, as concerning the law, zealous, above his peers.

To be a priest in the O.T. one could not have any disabilities and such, later when Paul on the road to Damascus saw the lord, was blinded and never fully recovered from this disability, he knew according to his prior teaching that he was now disqualified to be a  priest, and yet he was called to be the great  Apostle.

Many have wondered what was Paul’s thorn in the flesh, one of them we know, he had a problem with his eyes, he never fully recovered, the lord sent him Luke a doctor, and for good reason, to apply balms and such to keep Paul going, we do not read this in the word, but it makes perfect sense, and a blessing from the lord

Gal 4:12  Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.

Gal 4:13  Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.

Gal 4:14  And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

Gal 4:15  Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.

Gal 4:15  Where is that good feeling now? I am sure that if it had been possible, you would have taken out your own eyes and given them to me.

Paul was humbled by this and he knew if it were not by grace and faith, and the lords calling of him, in the school he was learned and the law he was trained he would have been dismissed due to his infirmity.

Look at what several verses say concerning this law- grace issue, and let the word speak.

1Th 2:14  For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

1Th 2:15  Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

1Th 2:16  Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

1Th 2:17  But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.

1Th 2:18  Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

1Th 2:19  For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

1Th 2:20  For ye are our glory and joy.

Col 2:8  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Col 2:15  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Col 2:16  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Col 2:17  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Col 3:11  Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

Eph 2:5  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Eph 2:6  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Eph 2:7  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Eph 2:11  Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

Eph 2:12  That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Eph 2:13  But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Eph 2:14  For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Eph 2:15  Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

Eph 2:16  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Eph 2:17  And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Eph 2:18  For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

All True Believers are one in Christ, Jew and Gentile and no difference in Paul’s eyes or, the lords, we have the word on it. The N.T. truths are the new truths, why do so many still seek after the law and legalism to accomplish what Jesus did on the cross, was not the blood of Christ enough?

In the post modern theology camp, the emerging church anything goes, I mean anything, no standard, no doctrine, no nothing, this can be taken out of balance as you have post modernism vrs the legalist. They are both not the word of the lord, nor balanced.

Rom 7:4  That is how it is with you, my friends. You are now part of the body of Christ and are dead to the power of the Law. You are free to belong to Christ, who was raised to life so that we could serve God.

Rom 7:6  But the Law no longer rules over us. We are like dead people, and it cannot have any power over us. Now we can serve God in a new way by obeying his Spirit, and not in the old way by obeying the written Law.

Note: Us this includes Paul who was a Jew.

Rom 7:12  Still, the Law and its commands are holy and correct and good.

This is true, but understand in context why Paul is saying this and you will see no contradiction.


Romans 7:12
Therefore the law is holy,.... This is a conclusion or inference drawn from the preceding discourse, in commendation of the law; that standing clear of any charge or imputation of sin, as being the cause of it. This epithet the apostle gives to the law is what the Jews frequently give it; worthy are the Israelites, say they (h),

"to whom is given אורייתא קדישא "the holy law"; in which they study day and night.''

By "the law" is meant the whole body of the precepts of it in general; and by

the commandment, either the same, or everyone of the commandments in particular, and especially that which is cited, "thou shall not covet". Some have thought that the three properties of it design the threefold division of the law; and suppose that by that which is "holy" is meant the ceremonial law, which sanctified to the purifying of the flesh; by that which is "just", the judicial law, which pointed out to the Jewish commonwealth what was right and wrong; and by that which is "good", the moral law in all its precepts: but nothing is more certain, than that the moral law is only spoken of in this context, which may be said to be

holy, because of its author, the holy God, from whom nothing can come but what is holy; and because of the matter of it, it is a transcript of the holy nature of God, a declaration of his holy will; it requires holiness both of heart and life; it forbids whatever is unholy, and commands nothing but what is holy; it teaches men to live holy, sober, righteous, and godly lives. It may be truly called

just, or righteous, as it demands perfect obedience to all its precepts, or it will not admit of it as a righteousness; as it pronounces guilty, curses and condemns for every disobedience of it; as it deals impartially with persons the transgressors of it; and as it acquits believers upon the foot of the righteousness of Christ, the fulfilling end of it. It is rightly called

good, from the author of it, God, from whom every good thing comes, and nothing else; from the matter of it, and from the use of it both to saints and sinners.

(h) Zohar in Gen. fol. 48. 4.

We cannot live a God pleasing life by keeping the law, because we cannot, it is only by the holy spirit, we are given the ability to live a holy life.

I , like many of you, have sat under, and  abused, by dictatorial Pastors, Churches, denominations and man made doctrines, a Churches Constitution and bylaws  end up superseding the word of the lord.

 Much damage have these dictatorial men done and one day they will give an account for hurting the sheep and not healing them, nor even seeking the wayward ones out.

The modern church is now no more than a social club, no meat, no Gospel, no truth. There are so few to be found, they are still scattered around our world, but it is the minority as it was prophesied it would be.

 If you have been hurt and wounded by legalist, I cam empathize with you, it is a wound that can take a long time to heal, but healing will come, as we draw near our lord, he draws near to us, we adhere to the bible as our guide line and the Gospel truths, we are set free by Jesus and we are made fully alive, fully free, once we escape the tyranny of the pulpit and embrace the cross.

Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom 8:2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Rom 8:3  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Rom 8:4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
