Luk 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
And pondered them in her heart - Συμβαλλουσα, Weighing them in her heart. Weighing is an English translation of our word pondering, from the Latin ponderare. Every circumstance relative to her son’s birth, Mary treasured up in her memory; and every new circumstance she weighed, or compared with those which had already taken place, in order to acquire the fullest information concerning the nature and mission of her son.
Luk 2:51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
The Greek Says concerning keeping the words to her self;
Only here and Act_15:29. The preposition διά, through, indicates close, faithful, persistent keeping, through all the circumstances which might have weakened the impression of the events. Compare Gen_37:11.
The cross reference is a good one and the same idea.
Gen 37:10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
Gen 37:11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.
However, his father observed the saying; what Joseph had said in relating his dream; he laid it up in his mind and kept it there, often thought of it, and waited to see its accomplishment.
There is a time when we hear something, from a true believer, a Prophet a word of knowledge, a revelation given in the secret closet of prayer, that we are to keep the matter to ourselves, there are many reasons let me name a few.
Revelation is progressive, many times the whole is not understood until more words are told, given and confirmed, we must not be rash in saying thus saith the lord, until we are certain the lord wants us to, as we know in part and prophecy in part. I have had this happen I was and am now being given words daily, many are personal, to me, and the lord keeps adding more to it as it is in part and by precepts upon precept and line upon line.
In context that O.T. verse is not what many think, the lord Jehovah was saying my people are so dumb ed down and should know more, but I must now train them as a child, line upon line in the Hebrew it is akin to a grade school-er learning the alphabet slowly and in large letters, so it is a word meant for those who are still on milk and should be on meat.
But we are sheep and sheep are the dumbest animals alive, did you know that, that’s why we are called sheep, ( LOL) children, our knowledge is so far below our lords he in patience, sometimes has to teach even those trained in meat to learn something new a step at a time.
Also a big problem with those who have a prophetic gift, or a word of knowledge, and are new in the gift, go around telling the people all they were told and prophesying over everyone. I have learned over the years, many times when the Holy Spirit reveals something about a person it is for this reason.
Not to tell them or others, that is gossip, but to know how to pray for that person and on what matter. We do not know how we should pray, but the Holy Spirit knows the mind of the lord and intercedes for us with groans and they can not be uttered, also the Holy Spirit helps us in all our infirmities, infirmities in Greek means a weakness of body or mind.
Many times, we must keep things to ourselves and for a reason. In the O.T. all over the book pf Proverbs we read the Wiseman is known by his few words. James says, Jas 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: (Anger)
Yes there is a time to keep a word in, a chance to ponder on it, accumulate and store the word inside and look for more and you will see and hear more and later we can speak, that is why a wise man ponders what he hears and is slow to speak. Many speak so fast they are reveling the foolish heart, the real inner thoughts, you can discern a lot by just listening to a person talk, and this is the best way to know a tree by its fruit.
When I was in the mental health field, I did a lot of listening and little talk, until I listen fully, pondered and than I spoke.
In ministry it is the same, when your disciplining someone, fellow-shipping with someone, getting to know someone, you listen closely and than listen more, ponder and than speak, the fool uttereth his whole heart, the wise keep a matter to themselves.
If you are given a insight it usually is for the purpose of directed prayer for that person, so the lord will speak to them and guide them, remember since Jesus came no man needs a go between, so many Christians feel they must be a go between Christian, we have an intercessor and an advocate, Christ Jesus the lord, this is why the Catholic faith has it all wrong, we do not need a priest to be our intercessor or speak for the lord, or call them father, Jesus is the one who is our go to lord.
This is wisdom, may you apply this lesson today, and hay keep it on the low OK, it is between me and you. lol.
