Take, Catch, Seize On- Love, Can Anyone Do it And Understand

Eph 3:16  That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

Eph 3:17  That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Eph 3:18  May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

Eph 3:19  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Eph 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Ephesians 3:18

May be able — even still further. Greek, “May be fully able.”

breadth ... length ... depth ... height — namely, the full dimensions of the spiritual temple, answering to “the fullness of God” (Eph_3:19), to which the Church, according to its capacity, ought to correspond (compare Eph_4:10, Eph_4:13) as to “the fullness of Christ.” The “breadth” implies Christ’s world-wide love, embracing all men: the “length,” its being extended through all ages (Eph_3:21); the “depth,” its profound wisdom which no creature can fathom (Rom_11:33); the “height,” its being beyond the reach of any foe to deprive us of (Eph_4:8) [Bengel].

I prefer to understand “the breadth,” etc., to refer to the whole of the vast mystery of free salvation in Christ for all, Gentile and Jew alike, of which Paul had been speaking (Eph_3:3-9), and of which he now prays they may have a fuller comprehension. As subsidiary to this, and the most essential part of it, he adds, “and to know the love of Christ” (Eph_3:19). Grotius understands depth and height of God’s goodness raising us from the lowest depression to the greatest height.

Ephesians 3:18
That being rooted and grounded - That is, deeply fixed and firmly established, in love. Ye may comprehend - So far as an human mind is capable. What is the breadth of the love of Christ - Embracing all mankind. And length - From everlasting to everlasting. And depth - Not to be fathomed by any creature. And height - Not to be reached by any enemy.

Ephesians 3:18

May be able to comprehend with all saints - Ἱνα εξισχυσητε καταλαβεσθαι. These words are so exceedingly nervous and full of meaning, that it is almost impossible to translate them.

The first word, εξισχυσητε , from εξ, intensive, and ισχυω, to be strong, signifies that they might be thoroughly able, by having been strengthened with might, by God’s power. The second word καταλαβεσθαι, from κατα, intensive, and λαμβανω , to take, catch, or seize on, may be translated, that ye may fully catch, take in, and comprehend this wonderful mystery of God. The mind must be rendered apt, and the soul invigorated, to take in and comprehend these mysteries.

Rom 11:33  O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

His ways - The word rendered “ways” properly denotes a path, or road on which one travels. Hence, it comes also to denote the course or manner of life in which one moves; or his principles, or morals; his doctrine, or teaching, etc. Applied to God, it denotes his mode or manner of doing things; the order, etc. of his divine Providence; his movements, in his great plans, through the universe; Act_13:10,

“Wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?” to oppose, or to render vain, his plan of guiding and saving man; Heb_3:10,” They have not known my ways;” Psa_77:19, “Thy way is in the sea, thy footsteps are not known.” Here it refers particularly to his way or plan of bringing all nations within the reach of his mercy in the gospel.

Past finding out - Literally, which cannot be tracked or traced out. The footsteps cannot be followed. As if his path were in the sea Psa_77:19, and the waves closed immediately, leaving no track, it cannot be followed or sought out.

It is known that he has passed, but there is no way of tracing his goings. This is a beautiful and striking figure. It denotes that God’s plans are deep, and beyond our comprehension. We can see the proofs that he is everywhere; but how it is, we cannot comprehend. We are permitted to see the vast movements around us; but the invisible hand we cannot see, nor trace the footsteps of that mighty God who performs his wonders on the ocean and on the land.

Dear reader I want you to know, this message is not speaking of the easy to understand Gospel message of salvation, or our core doctrinal beliefs.
This message is how the lord’s ways, plans, acts and thoughts are so far beyond ours we as humans; spirit filled or not, are at times baffling.

We know in part, this will not change until we reach heaven. On earth we gradually learn more and more, but we will never fully understand the deep riches of the lord.

Php 3:12  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Php 3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Php 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Php 3:15  Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Php 3:16  Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

1. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect:

2. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended

3. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: (Perfect=Mature)

If Paul never fully attained to perfection, or fully apprehended the things of the lord, who are we?

The wisdom in this whole message is in verse 16,

Php 3:16  Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

We are being told, look, you do not understand it all, but walk, live, minister in what you do know now, and let us walk by this rule.

We learn more every day, or we should be that is, many stay stagnant, unmovable and unteachable as if they know all and have in their mind arrived to all understanding, again, are we greater than Paul is? We only know in part. No one , ministry, Church, person , can claim to know it all, or most of it all, we know nothing compared to the ways of the lord.

In my 40 years of  study I have learned a great deal, as I look back I also see the lord has change my mind and taught me things I thought were gospel truths to be deceptions, or incorrect bible belief's, as I once was a rapture teacher, now I am not, this is one example.

The word is not all hard to understand, many parts are difficult and open to interpretation that is why we have so many denominations, Baptist and Pentecostal for one example. However, many in all Christian denominations that are truly saved and hold to the core doctrines, the essentials, are one in Christ. I am not ecumenical, but I do believe people are saved, a remnant in almost every Christian denomination that holds to the core doctrines.

It can be frustrating, just when we think we have something down , the lord reveals the opposite, we are to continue walking, ministering, gathering in what we know until we all come into the unity of faith and all knowledge, this happens in heaven, not earth.

What you are passionate about believe, walk in it, That is the wisdom here, if there is something wrong, out of order, the lord will reveal it to you as you walk and minister, and fellowship.

This is why in the Church we have different gifts, different calls, all the parts are what make up the building founded on Jesus.

The main text in Eph, the whole Ch, talks of this principle, we are the universal remnant church of Christ, each gifted in the way the lord called them, and we come together and become a whole. Not perfect, but better when we are together so each can play their part in the building of a holy habitation of the lord.

This should not confuse anyone, it should encourage you, there are so many things to learn, so many gems in the bible, it alone is the only book ever written that is alive and active, 100% alive, that in itself is a powerful and sometimes unfathomable thing, one week the same verse you read, the next week can teach a whole other insight.

What a wonder our lord is and truly His ways are past finding out, his dealings, judgments, who knows, what, when, where, but we should with the spirit, every day learn more of the depths of the lord.

There is no end to it, we are but flesh, we are but infinite humans, his ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts, so what do we do?
As I said the application is to walk, live and minister in what you know, do not wait until you think you know enough or everything until you do any ministry, because you never will.

We can get discouraged at times, because we fail, we miss the mark, we face perplexities, but in it all we have the blood of Christ that forgives all sin and sets us back on the right course with NO condemnation.

Condemnation and not conviction can be one of the best way the enemy uses to  discourage many to come to the place they say, ‘forget it I will never fully understand, I am fully perplexed and I am a sinner’, all true, but condemnation is not conviction, they are two separate things, one holy, the other unholy.

If you have missed the mark, did something, or even thought something you regret and are convicted of, repent and move on, do not stew on it, this can cause you to fall away, that is why Paul said in the same breath, I no longer look behind, but I look ahead.

My exhortation to the reader today, is this.

Repent and rebuild, get back on track, do not stew in your failures and sin, but move on and do not look back, looking back caused lots wife to turn into a pillar of salt, we are to be the salt of the earth, but this is pushing it LOL.
