Isa 48:1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah; who swear by the name of Jehovah, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness
Isa 48:2 (for they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; Jehovah of hosts is his name):
Isa 48:3 I have declared the former things from of old; yea, they went forth out of my mouth, and I showed them: suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.
Isa 48:4 Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;
Isa 48:5 therefore I have declared it to thee from of old; before it came to pass I showed it thee; lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.
Isa 48:6 Thou hast heard it; behold all this; and ye, will ye not declare it? I have showed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, which thou hast not known.
Isa 48:7 They are created now, and not from of old; and before this day thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
Isa 48:8 Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from of old thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou didst deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.
Isa 48:9 For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.
Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not as silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
Isa 48:11 For mine own sake, for mine own sake, will I do it; for how should my name be profaned? and my glory will I not give to another.
Isa 48:12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob, and Israel my called: I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
Isa 48:13 Yea, my hand hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spread out the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
Isa 48:14 Assemble yourselves, all ye, and hear; who among them hath declared these things? He whom Jehovah loveth shall perform his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
Isa 48:15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him; I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.
Isa 48:16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; from the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord Jehovah hath sent me, and his Spirit.
Isa 48:17 Thus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am Jehovah thy God, who teacheth thee to profit, who leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
Isa 48:18 Oh that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
Isa 48:19 thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the grains thereof: his name would not be cut off nor destroyed from before me.
Isa 48:20 Go ye forth from Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans; with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth: say ye, Jehovah hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
Isa 48:21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts; he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them; he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.
Isa 48:22 There is no peace, saith Jehovah, to the wicked.
The main points in this message I will give are as follows.
This chapter contains renewed assurances of the deliverance of the exile Jews from Babylon. It is designed, in the main, to state the causes for which the captivity would occur, and to furnish the assurance also that, not with standing the judgment that should come upon them, God would deliver them from bondage. It contains lamentations that there was a necessity for bringing these calamities upon them; assurances that God had loved them; appeals to themselves in proof that all that they had suffered had been predicted; and a solemn command to go forth out of Babylon.
The chapter is exceedingly tender, and full of love, and is an expression of the kindness which God has for his own people.
A solemn declaration of God that he had foretold all these events, and that they could not be traced in any manner to the power of idols, and that he, therefore, was God Isa_48:3-7.
The purpose of the calamities brought upon them was to refine and purify them, as in a furnace Isa_48:10.
An assertion of his power, and his ability to accomplish what he had purposed Isa_48:12-13.
He expresses his deep regret that their conduct had been such as to make it necessary to bring these heavy judgments on them, and states what would have been the result if they had observed his commandments. Their peace would have been as a river, their righteousness as the waves of the sea, and their offspring as the sand Isa_48:17-19.
God would provide for them in the deserts, and cause the waters to flow for them in their journey through the pathless wilderness Isa_48:21.
The chapter concludes with a general declaration that the wicked have no peace, implying that they only have peace and security that put their trust in God Isa_48:22.
As I sit writing, and thinking on a Great Awakening, it is very different than a revival, in some ways. A revival comes after a great awakening, not before. Church History shows this.
Great awakening preachers in their writings wrote much of seeking the full power of the lord, this was a holy anguish. It was started at the Welch Revival 1904, before that, a great awakening, that had to happen first. The mark of a great awakening is repentance, this shows by a total life change.
We find this to be the case in the book of Acts Ch 2, The Holy Spirit came; they spoke in other languages they did not know, proclaiming the Gospel. Than Peter stands up and preached one of the longest and most powerful messages in the N.T. The message was Repent; Jesus alone is the living messiah. After this repentance, we read in Acts the revival, healings, demons caste out, divine deliverance, and the gifts falling and the power of the lord shaking where they met.
Personal great awakenings can happen, should, and must, in the secret prayer closet. Repentance, renewal, hot tears, as we confess sin and get right with the lord, and back on track.
We have not seen a National Great Awakening, we may never, but we can all have a great awakening today, one prayer or season of prayer away. The Great Awakening happens after the Judgments fall, it is the reason for them, as we will see below
In this chapter we find some main keys.
A) The lord plainly foretold-the lord alone and no false gods. 48:3-7
Many still turn to false gods, idols, we see it everywhere every day. A current example is this news of Egypt.
Ancient Wonder of the World: Egypt Approves Plan to Rebuild Pharaohs of Alexandria
The Pharaohs of Alexandria was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the most famous lighthouse in antiquity. The incredible feat of ancient engineering stood at an impressive height of 130 meters (430ft) until it was destroyed by an earthquakes,(Note: Nepal) in the 14th century AD. Now it is destined to rise again as Egyptian authorities have just approved plans to rebuild the towering monument.
Built either late in the reign of Ptolemy I or early in the reign of Ptolemy II, around 280 BC, the lighthouse was located on the eastern tip of the island of Pharaohs. Posidippus of Pella, who lived in Alexandria during the reign of Ptolemy II, wrote a poem on a piece of papyrus, which recorded its architect as Sostratus of Cnidus. In some descriptions, it is recorded that a huge statue, representing either Alexander the Great or Ptolemy I in the form of the Sun God, Helios, stood on the top of the lighthouse. This would have been an obvious message to anyone entering Alexandria by sea that the city was now under ‘Ptolemaic management’. In addition, this would have demonstrated the euergetism (the doing of good deeds) of the new ruling dynasty.
The lighthouse was damaged by a series of earthquakes between 3rd and 12th centuries and is believed to have been completely destroyed in the early 14th century. In 1994, hundreds of huge masonry blocks from the original lighthouse were found in waters off the island.
Look what happened to the idols and tower in Nepal, not a wise move on Egypt’s part. The world is driven to the new age, to anything but the bible and Jesus Christ. Our nation is on the road of destruction due to this, casting the lord out of the Western World. It is not just America; a province in China, right now, is telling all places of Worship, take down all crosses. This is the start of that iron curtain falling again. America, the West, the baby of nations also had the greatest move of the lord, America was the biggest mission giving, mission sending, country that history has produced. It was based on Judeao-Christian faith, and the republic from Rome.
This text tells us, we have been openly warned, for years and no Great Awakening, and now the Judgments are falling. The lord told us, not an idol a false religion, the lord himself.
B) the why, the purpose of judgment, it was to refine His people by fire. 48:10
The lord, by the Holy Spirit, on the Day of Pentecost came as a wind and fire. The fire is holiness. This power to live Holy comes from the Holy Spirit not us, as always, we must co-operate if we are to operate with the lord, move with the pillar cloud and the pillar of Fire, in other words, moving as the lord moves and following his direction. Know what the lord is about to do, (and many should know that now), and plan all activity according to this.
C) The lord alone has all power, all authority, to bring about what He wants. 48:12-13
Man still kicks against the thorns and has a bloody foot and no submission to the will and things of God. Part of a Great Awakening , is obedience, a life change, a full 180 degree turn around, not perfection, but striving to enter in by the narrow gate, this will never end this side of glory. Let us co-operate with what the lord is doing and what he has foretold, if not, we will have no Peace, and just a lame walk with the bloody feet of rebellion.
D) The Lords deep regret of the saint’s conduct-He offered the way out to peace like a river, but they would not have it. 48:17-19.
The lord in love has deep regret, as Jesus looked over Jerusalem and wept, the lord has always wanted to take his saints under his wings. The wings protect, deliver, guide, and provide.
The best provision and prosperity is that of Spiritual blessing. The lord wants to take care of his people. It is a call for simple child like faith. Our lord takes no pleasure in judgment, esp. on his own people; he hates the death of anyone.
E) The Lords divine provision in a wilderness a desert, a dry place literally, or in your walk with him.
This is the same as Ezekiels vision of the Valley of dry bones. In context it is speaking of the time when all Israel will be saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, this has not happened yet.
It also speaks to the Church, it tells us of dryness, deadness and the need for the breath, the spirit of the lord to breath in us new life, from death to life. Part one of Great Awakening, next revival, read the Chapter, life first from the dead, than revival, this truth is all over the bible.
The lord has said he would provide water in this desert, saint he has promised water and food, manna, to those that are his, in a city, a desert, the woods, all over the world where his real saints are. Provision, direction, we get direction from prayer, the word, the small still voice. If we listen and heed we will be where we should be, stay where we are and all under His divine protection, I care not where you are, our hiding place is not a cave, it is the presence of the lord, and in His presence is fullness of joy and peace like a river, this can not be found anywhere else, it can not be worked up, it can not be earned.
Grace, mercy, love, the blood on and in, our soul, and the mark of the lord, his name on our forehead. Our forehead is already marked and there is no room for the mark of the beast.
F) The last verse says, what we use a lot in outreach,” There is no peace unto the wicked" 58:22
The Peace is also not for saints that are backslidden, fallen, or have lost their first love. Peace happens, once we let the blood of Jesus make peace with us and the lord almighty, nothing else will do.
This progression, this message, is saying, there is a step, by step must do, it is not detailed. Repent, move on and move in to the fullness of the lord.
Men complicate everything, there is no need to. Is a call to Repentance hard to understand? NO, the problem is few want to hear it, so they go on in their life with no peace, trying to fill that void with something else, and that something else is no more than a broken cistern that can hold no water at all.
The Holy Spirit is that water, it should flow out of us in the overflow. I did a sermon on that one called, ‘Evaporation or Overflow’. We can, should, must, move in overflow now. The time of a sip now and than will not do the job. This is a call to repentance and renewal.
Is accepting the filling of the power of the Holy Spirit hard to understand? No, but many want that, step two, without step one.
Beloved, there are no short cuts, five steps to obtain all you wish and want, and these books are nothing more than false doctrine, false hope, prosperity nonsense, and doctrines that try to get you to take the few steps in the book while not taking the first step, repentance.
It was the way it worked in Acts, it will always worked this way.
I end with this;
Do you saint, want all the lord has for you? Many would say yes, but what if what the lord wants and has for you is not what you want or wish to be? To the false promise, pillow prophet books, sites, videos the search goes on and you’re just as empty when you were sold out to sin.
This is a call to a personal Great Awakening, it can be beloved, it should, and it must.
What you want may not be what the lord has for you, can you, can I handle that?
Understand; our lord only has our best in his heart, He is not sitting on his throne waiting for every mistake to shoot a lightning bolt at you, that is the Old Covenant lord of Mount Sinai, we now sever the lord at the Mercy seat, the mount that can be touched, and was ascended for us by our high priest, Jesus Christ, our Peace, our Jehovah Shalom.
Think on this.
