Jos 8:1 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:
Jos 8:2 And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.
Jos 8:3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night. KJV
ASV-Jos 8:18 And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Stretch out the javelin that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thy hand. And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
Jos 8:19 And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it; and they hasted and set the city on fire.
Jos 8:26 For Joshua drew not back his hand, wherewith he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
Jos 8:27 Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey unto themselves, according unto the word of Jehovah which he commanded Joshua.
The perfect cross reference to this is found in;
Exo 17:9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.
Exo 17:10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Exo 17:11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
Exo 17:12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; And his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Exo 17:13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
In the main text we read the Javelin was held up by Joshua alone, the CR. Moses needed two to help.
The message, the lord has given us N.T. Saints the word of the spirit, it is double edged and it cuts like a knife and it is powerful, alive and active.
The armor in Eph ch 6 the word of the Spirit is not Logos, but rhema,
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
KJV not correct not a Word is, a dagger, meaning use for close combat and not far from your enemy. A Revelation of the Logos.
Eph 6:17 AndG2532 takeG1209 theG3588 helmetG4030 of salvation,G4992 andG2532 theG3588 swordG3162 of theG3588 Spirit,G4151 which isG3603 the wordG4487 of God:G2316
From G4483; an utterance (individually, collectively or specifically); by implication a matter or topic (especially of narration, command or dispute); with a negative naught whatever: - + evil, + nothing, saying, word.
Also most think the sword of the spirit is the logo it is, but not in our armor, it is a dagger, a little knife so we can see the whites of the eyes of the enemy and our sin, up close and in combat more deadly, more close and not a 3 foot sword with a large distance between the enemy and sin of the flesh.
Probably feminine of a presumed derivative of G3163; a knife, that is, dirk; figuratively war, judicial punishment: - sword.
A Knife or a Dirk, that is a dagger, that is what the Greek word means in this verse, rightly divide the word, use the Greek and out comes Revelations and gems of the word.
Now, most are using a butter knife today, A spear, or javelin O.T. Dagger and revelation in N.T, is what we should be using.
This is why so many are low in spirit, dull in prayer, dead in spiritual battle and being overcome and not over-comers.
This is call to direct your prayers as well, they must be from the lord, he says take up that Javelin, point it at this place, direct, specific prayers are the call of the day, not just praying in the wind, but directed to our high priest, he is the one, the holy of holies the place, we have power, yes power, Dunamis, in the lord, the word, prayer, we are given all the tools we need, we just have to start using them, and more important using them Gods way, not ours, man made things have no power, God made things do, Man made things lose in battle, make no impact, the things and will of God moves nations, cities, and you, your own heart and secret sin, be it spiritual laziness, or just tired, dull and burnt out.
T. Austin Sparks says;
If that statement is true, it helps us at once to see the need in our time; for, speaking generally,
the people of God on the earth in our time have confused parts of the purpose of God with the whole; have emphasized phases to the detriment of the whole.
They are confusing means and methods and enthusiasm and zeal with the exact
object of the Lord, failing to recognize that God's purpose must be reached
in God's way and by God's means, and the way and the means are just
as important as the purpose: that is, you cannot reach God's end just anyhow, by any kind of method that you may employ, by projecting your own ideas
or programs or schemes to get to God's end.
God has His own way and means of getting to His end. God's thoughts extend to and spread over the smallest detail of His purpose, and you cannot wholly realize the purpose of God except as the very details are according to the mind of God.
God might have said to Moses, Build me a tabernacle, will you? I leave it to you how you do it,
what you use; you see what I am after; go and make me a tabernacle. Moses might have got the idea of what God wanted and have worked out the kind of thing he would make for God according to his own mind. But we know that God did not leave a single detail, a peg or a pin's point, a stitch or a thread, to the mind of man. I only use that illustration in order to enforce what I mean,
that prophetic ministry is to present God's full, original and ultimate purpose, as it is according to His mind, and hold it like that for God; to interpret the mind of God in all matters concerning the purpose of God, to bring all details into line with the purpose, and to make the purpose govern everything.
In Peter we read;
2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Are you using all things, are you using that God ordained Javelin, or just a butter knife?
The lord has give it to you, it is up to you and grace to use all you have been given, and in the end, when the dust settles, we will be found with that Holy Javelin of Gods will, revelation and power when he comes.
Think on This.
I have an old prophetic exhortation in a short video, the words the lord gave, I put the words to a composition I wrote. Warriors You Are Not Alone. Watch That, Have a great week.
