Psa 14:2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
Psa 14:3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Psa 14:4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD.
Psa 14:5 There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.
Psa 14:6 Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge.
Barnes vs 6;
The poor - The righteous, considered as poor, or as afflicted. The word here rendered “poor” - עני ‛ânı̂y - means more properly, afflicted, distressed, needy. It is often rendered “afflicted,”
The wicked had derided those who, in circumstances of poverty, depression, want, trial, had no other resource, and who had sought their comfort in God
Because the Lord is his refuge - He has made the Lord his refuge. In his poverty, affliction, and trouble, he has come to God, and put his trust in him. This source of comfort
In our poverty, affliction and our troubles this causes us to turn to the lord with a yearning for renewal and needed comfort, hence we actually need these times as the end is good, we look to God.
In a post I posted called Poor by Choice now, but soon it will not be by choice ( link)
Those who are in bad circumstances must understand it will be a good thing, a head start on whats coming. The once scoffed at looked down on poor afflicted ones who were not listened to, that made the lord their all and all, in the days coming, many will think different, they will remember you and many will come for the word of the lord and truth. They will see the lords countenance on you, the peace in the storm and they will want it, what a great opportunity for soul winning this will be, so do not be sad or resist this current hardship you are going through, you are being prepared to be end time ministers, a witness for the lord. America will end, but our faith, and our lord will not. Man can only do so much, only what the lord allows, there is a holy remnant now, but in the days coming many will return. They will be in fear, you will be fearless, they will have no peace, you will be in perfect peace, this will attract the many who are panic stricken and it will be your job to step up to the plate and point them to Christ.
In verse 14 it says the workers of iniquity eat up my people like bread.
Matt Henry says:
They eat up God's people with as much greediness as they eat bread, such an innate and inveterate enmity they have to them, and so heartily do they desire their ruin, because they really hate God, whose people they are. It is meat and drink to persecutors to be doing mischief; it is as agreeable to them as their necessary food. They eat up God's people easily, daily, securely, without either check of conscience when they do it or remorse of conscience when they have done it; as Joseph's brethren cast him into a pit and then sat down to eat bread.
This does not mean we are not more than conquers, or that the gates of hell shall not prevail. It means and teaches the intensity in which non believers hate and mock, treat poorly, persecute, make trouble for the lords own. It has always been this was and it always will. I have said many times very soon Christian persecution is coming to America very soon. If you know about history , early American history you read of persecution that already happened in America, so it is not like it has never happened in America before, and History repeats. The Quakers were persecuted, tortured, killed by the state church. Read the following on what happen to the Quakers, christian persecution in American history, one example of one group, as others were persecuted, but non to the extent of the Quakers.
Friends made a most profound affect on the course of American history. The first Quaker missionaries arrived on America's shores in 1656, one hundred and twenty years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Mary Fisher and Ann Austin landed at Boston where the Puritan authorities had them seized and kept under close guard. A hundred of their books were burned in the marketplace and they were dispatched to Barbados on the next departing ship. Their bedding and even their Bibles were confiscated to pay the jailer's fee. The Puritan Fathers wanted religious freedom for themselves but offered it to no one else.
The persecution of Friends in Puritan Massachusetts grew more intense. Friends were lashed behind carts and whipped from town to town. They were branded with a "H" for heretic; they had their tongues bored through with a hot iron; their ears were cut off; they were banished. Finally Governor John Endicott succeeded in having the death penalty invoked for any Friends who returned to the colony after being banished beyond its borders. Four Quakers were hung on Boston Common--William Robinson, Marmaduke Stephenson, William Leddra and Mary Dyer. She was the first woman to suffer death on these shores for her religious convictions. Today a statue of her stands on Boston Common, a reminder to all that our religious freedom was bought at a precious price.
So, you see historic fact on American soil a christian persecution already happened, and it is coming again against all that believe the word, believe Jesus is the only way, truth and life. It is coming. The Quakers also were instrumental in the freedoms of our constitution, they did not fight with gun or sword, but paid with their blood by death, persecution. They died for the right cause , Christ, freedom of religion. History gives a excellent fact on this, it also shows us what can come out of a great persecution.
When the Founding Fathers met in the latter part of the 1700's to write the Constitution that would design the government of the United States, they turned to William Penn's Frame of Government for Pennsylvania. If they had turned to Puritan New England for their model there would have been an established state church. If they had turned to aristocratic Virginia for their model there would have been a privileged class. Most of the rights and freedoms that we take for granted as a part of our way of life in America today were originally set forth in Penn's Charter of Liberties for his colony. Friends were the original architects of the free society that we enjoy.
This shows even in death, our lord works all things out for the good.
I have been asked, do I think Christian persecution will happen in America as it is happening right now in parts of the world, I say it is not a matter of if, but when. I can say this with full assurance, Why? It already happened before. It already happened in America, It will happen again.
Laws, are passed every day lately, that is taking Americas freedoms away, the constitution is already dead, as I have said. It is coming be ready and in fervent prayer and study.
I am not posting to make you afraid, I am just telling you the truth, because as DR Scott Owen always says, Truth is Shock resistant. We must face the truth so we are not in a state of shock and panic when it comes.
