Luk 4:29 and they rose up, and cast him forth out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong.
Luk 4:30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way.
What some of the commentaries say astonished me, I must admit I always wondered about, how when they wanted to kill Jesus, he just walked away from them, through the crowd. Se what a couple commentaries says, understand I believe this could be how Jesus escaped the place, why not, he was God in flesh. This chapter makes that crystal clear.
Joh 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was born, I am.
Jesus is clearly saying he was at times the Angel of Jehovah and other names, Jesus was always with the Father, he had no creation, he always was the I am that I am. In John ch1 we read of the deity of Jesus, it amazes me how many non believers, once believers, or confused believers, or demonic false believers say Jesus was not always, he was not pre incarnate. The verse says it in a way a 2nd grader can understand, before Abraham was I am, or I have been around before Abraham.
So, how did Jesus slip through the crowd untouched?
Jesus hid himself - See Luk_4:30. That is, he either by a miracle rendered himself invisible, or he so mixed with the multitude that he was concealed from them and escaped. Which is the meaning cannot be determined.
But Jesus hid himself, not in any corner of the temple, or behind a pillar; but he withdrew himself from them directly, and made himself invisible to them, by holding their eyes, or casting a mist before them, that they could not see him:
Then they took up stones - To stone him as a blasphemer; but Jesus concealed himself - Probably by becoming invisible; and so passed on - With the same ease as if none had been there.
Joh 10:39 They sought again to take him: and he went forth out of their hand.
but he escaped out of their hands; either by withdrawing from them in some private way; or by open force, exerting his power, and obliging them on every side to fall back, and give way to him; or by rendering himself invisible to them; and this he did, not through fear of death, but because his time was not yet come, and he had other work to do, before he suffered and died.
That is wild indeed.
WE read many things in the word that are hard to grasp, commentaries, bible helps normally disagree, what you do is take 4 commentaries and see what they say, they are only men, scholars and such, still men. say three commentaries agree one does not, you take the three against one as being what most commentaries- bible helps agree on. This is one such case. It seems wild our lord lit. became invisible, or made it so the crowd was temporally blind. The lord can do anything.
Other bible truths that have many opinions, or you can take it at face vaule using Greek and the bible, such odd verses are follows;
Joh 6:21 They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat: and straightway the boat was at the land whither they were going.
and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went; which was done, as Nonnus observes, by a divine motion; for not only the wind ceased, but another miracle was wrought; the ship was in an instant at the place whither they intended to go.
and immediately the ship was at the land — This additional miracle, for as such it is manifestly related, is recorded here alone. Yet all that is meant seems to be that as the storm was suddenly calmed, so the little bark - propelled by the secret power of the Lord of Nature now sailing in it
In the first part, Jesus vanished, or the people were blinded, in this case once Jesus was on the boat it immediately, at once they were at the destination. This teaches us, we do not move by self, might, nor power but by the spirit of the lord.
These are non essentials and all this matters not, what matters is our lord can break all the laws of Physics as he would want, he was at creation, the word spoken Jesus created , the trinity was all partaking in the worlds creation. What a might God we serve.
One last odd truth, and yes many bible helps disagree, it is when Phillip was baptizing the Ethiopian Eunuch, when the Eunuch came up, Philip was gone
and it says straightway Phillip found himself in another place, this is a type of time travel, Jesus after he rose from the dead could walk through walls, we will all have such abilities as Jesus said, we will be like him , his resurrected body it will be able to do many things we can not understand this side of glory.
Act 8:39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
Act 8:40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached the gospel to all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
Caught away (hērpasen). Suddenly and miraculously, for harpazō, like the Latin rapio, means to carry off. Cf. 2Co_12:2; 1Th_4:17.
Suddenly and miraculously.
WE see in the Greek it means , suddenly, miraculously.
This is an say thing to look up, but it is beyond our ability to understand- being born again, it's faith, how do you explain faith, you can not, you must experience it, and embrace bible truths by faith. We pray to the lord, where is the lord, who are we praying to. This shows it's an act of faith just to pray. It's all faith , the six day creation, divine healing, all faith.
the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip — To deny [as Meyer, Olshausen, Bloomfield] the miraculous nature of Philip’s disappearance, is vain. It stands out on the face of the words, as just a repetition of what we read of the ancient prophets, in 1Ki_18:12; 2Ki_2:16. And the same word (as Bengel remarks) is employed to express a similar idea in 2Co_12:2, 2Co_12:4; 1Th_4:17.
Philip was by the Holy Spirit Caught away, Greek same for our catching away, up at the post trib rapture, same thing. Where Philip was during the water baptism and than caught up, taken away to Aztotus, was not a long way from where he was,but a days journey and in an instant this happened, so why this message.
It is hard enough to believe the lord has our life 100% under his control, fear of job lose, economic collapse, and so much more, If we do not come to place of biblical sound truths, miracles, we will be doing a great disservice to our-self and those around us. Faith, hope, and trust in the lord, his will be done, in the now, we must believe for daily bread, one day at a time. Praying in faith: these type of odd stories should be faith builders and convince us once and f0r all our God can do anything he wants at anytime.
In the bible almost everything we read is a miracle, to dare to believe what the bible says, Jonah, Job, Noah, etc. these are not Childrens Sunday School stories, they are true events, Jesus spoke of them, and so, by faith we accept them as divine truths.
It is hard enough to get many to believe the bible is alive and active, the bible is the very word of God, from Gen to Revelations it is all the very words of our lord that alone takes faith, once you embrace all the bible as true your faith life will be a lot more easier, even if you can not explain it, why?Faith works.
