A Message On Direction-Guidance

 Ezr 8:1 These are now the chief of their fathers, and this is the genealogy of them that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king.

Ezr 8:2 Of the sons of Phinehas; Gershom: of the sons of Ithamar; Daniel: of the sons of David; Hattush.

Ezr 8:3 Of the sons of Shechaniah, of the sons of Pharosh; Zechariah: and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males an hundred and fifty.

Ezr 8:4 Of the sons of Pahathmoab; Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males.

Ezr 8:5 Of the sons of Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel, and with him three hundred males.

Ezr 8:6 Of the sons also of Adin; Ebed the son of Jonathan, and with him fifty males.

Ezr 8:7 And of the sons of Elam; Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah, and with him seventy males.

Ezr 8:8 And of the sons of Shephatiah; Zebadiah the son of Michael, and with him fourscore males.

Ezr 8:9 Of the sons of Joab; Obadiah the son of Jehiel, and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

Ezr 8:10 And of the sons of Shelomith; the son of Josiphiah, and with him an hundred and threescore males.

Ezr 8:11 And of the sons of Bebai; Zechariah the son of Bebai, and with him twenty and eight males.

Ezr 8:12 And of the sons of Azgad; Johanan the son of Hakkatan, and with him an hundred and ten males.

Ezr 8:13 And of the last sons of Adonikam, whose names are these, Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and with them threescore males.

Ezr 8:14 Of the sons also of Bigvai; Uthai, and Zabbud, and with them seventy males.

Ezr 8:15 And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.

Ezr 8:16 Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding.

Ezr 8:17 And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, and to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

Ezr 8:18 And by the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

Ezr 8:19 And Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

Ezr 8:20 Also of the Nethinims, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinims: all of them were expressed by name.

Ezr 8:21 Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

Ezr 8:22 For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.

Ezr 8:23 So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.

Meyers:

Ezra 8:1-23

United Prayer for Guidance

Ezr_8:1-23

The number of men who accompanied Ezra amounted to 1754, but the women and children would bring up the gross total to about 7000. The lack of Levites was very serious. These should have been among the very first. A deputation was therefore sent to a neighboring seminary or college, where they were being trained, and here again is the mention of the good hand of God.

Sometimes hearts are ready and waiting for service, which need just a word or appeal to complete their plans.
There is always special interest in this paragraph for those who are venturing forth on the untried and unknown.

The camp at Ahava; the sending for the priests; the waiting for their coming; the recognition of God’s good hand in sending a man of discretion; and then the fast and prayer for protection.

We can almost see the little band on the point of plunging into the inhospitable and dangerous desert, spending hours in prayer, and restrained from requesting an escort, lest they might invalidate their leader’s trustful boast.

How careful we should be to do nothing inconsistent with the proud position that faith gives us in the keeping power of God! Seek Him, O soul of mine, and He will be found, and His hand shall be upon thee for good.

I find the key verse for this message to be:

Ezr 8:18 And by the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

This verse and two lines Meyer said is the message.

Sometimes hearts are ready and waiting for service, which need just a word or appeal to complete their plans.

How true this is reader, you may be seeking the lords direction on a matter, we see first the connection of Prayer, Fasting. Prayer is always the key.

Many reading this, you have a ready heart, your waiting to do a service, a thing, many of you already know what it is. All you need is a word from the lord, a confirmation, something that will spark you into action to do, what you know you are supposed to do. Many are still waiting for a, or A Big event before they do such and such. It may be to late than, action is called for NOW.
The Holy Spirit Keeps telling me, and to tell others, the time is now, not in a week, a month, but now. The window of grace is soon to be shut, you are being told, called, directed, what will it take to get you to do what you know you are supposed to do?

Yes, as Meyers says, and it is the main reason many have still not taken any action on a word you know you have been given.

…..those who are venturing forth on the untried and unknown.

It is faith, not blind, foolish faith, but a call to faith, we are all going into, venturing forth into the untried and the unknown. This is what makes it so hard, not one of us , have been down this road before, not one of us have ever been in the Fall of all as we know it, thus it takes faith. It is a tad alarming, even at times down right scary, the not knowing, this is how our lord works, his word is a lamp unto our feet, a lamp only shows a few steps ahead, not a mile, so it takes faith, but each step, as you move by faith, each place taken, each decision, will keep giving light to the next few steps, it is all a walk of faith.

Ezr 8:18 And by the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding,

In the N.T. This is done by a few different ways. Confirmation, the small still voice of guidance in prayer, someone, maybe like this message to say, yes, yes, the time is now. The Holy Spirit, our Teacher, comfort, Guide will not let us down, and will not allow us to take the wrong course of action. You pray, if need, pray and fast, you will by the Holy Spirit, The Bible, others, have the knowing on what to do, the lord knows your heart, if it is pure, he will not let you walk through the wrong door, he will close it, also he will open the right door, make the path, plain, smooth, knowing it is of our lord, by the inner peace.

Saints of the lord, Know the Holy Spirit has said, I have posted it, what will you do, it is NOW time to do what you have been told to do, it will require courage, faith, much prayer and taking that walk of Faith, it is time beloved to take that first step. It is time this day, to take that first step, into the unknown ways, it will be hard, but Peace will be your guide, and you will know without doubt what it is, but you must now pursue it.
