Suffering and the Sovereignty of God

When suffering occurs in our lives, we may tend to look at the situation as if God does not care for us, or we may begin to live doubt or disbelieve, or maybe even question our God, our Creator, our Maker, and all the promises the He has given us to freely read in the Bible. These truths may begin, to us, to become false, we question in our minds, why would a good God allow these things to happen, or even more harshly, what kind of God would let this take place. These thoughts, or questions are all to common of the human mind, especially when it is riddled with grief. But the truth of the matter is that suffering, at times is Gods way to show us sovereignty, to shows us His power of authority, which is always to bring Glory to His name, and is also always the best, correct, and greatest happening in our lives. This statement may not be fully understood right now, but, God Will is always the best thing in our lives for us, and what seems that it might be the possible death of us, it is always for the best of us, and our lives. Suffering and the Sovereignty of God, is the Will of our Creator, for the best that could be given for us.

We must first, and most importantly know that God is everything and He always was, always is, ans always will be, forever more.. Everyone, can only accept that they are here due to their life being given to them, thus not of their accord, and everything here that is made holds it being made by the one who made it. As we are dependent on our Lord, God, And Creator for all that we are, and our very existence, so all that mans has made owes its being here to the one who made it..But God himself, who is everything, who always has been, always is, and always will be, is the great supreme everlasting One. Everything that has ever been created, and all that has been made by the one, who was created from Him, our God, holds its very life, its very existence, and being to God who created all, and without the Creator, making the created, this is humans beings.

Then there would be nothing made by the created ones, who, in fact were created by God alone. So anyone, or anything that has ever been, owes it very being to the One was has made all, by Hos Devin power, eternal being, and Will, hence we as everything we are, owe it all to the One was has always been, our Lord, our God, our Creator, our all. There is nothing made, that has ever been made, unless it came from the one who makes all. God is good to those who wait, and seek Him, as we read in (Lamentations Chapter 3 Verses 24 Through 26 English Standard Version) "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him. "The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.”

We must understand that God is sovereign, defines the word sovereign as: dominion, having supreme power, and authority. God is the supreme authority, but we need to know that God allows satan to have his hand in the suffering, that in end result, will show the sovereignty of God, to bring Glory to His name through all situation, and which is always the best in our lives, Gods Will, for us. So consider when we here, when we see a natural disaster, such as a tornado, or a earth quake, or a flash flood, or wild fires, or tropical storms, or any natural disaster, they are the Will of God. We see that when natural disasters happen that thousands of innocent people will loose their lives, and at the same time thousands more may be injured, while still thousands of others may be not hurt, but homeless, or even hurt, and homeless. When we as humans see these types of situations, i believe we tend to think, in our own minds that what we see as evil, and suffering is from God, and without any great concern for us. This is far from the truth, the sovereignty of God is one hundred percent in control over Satan, and God is sovereign over everything that is evil, over everything that Satan has produced on this Earth. So God has supreme authority over satans power on this Earth..

In the Bible we will see that satan is called: a world ruler, as we read in (John Chapter 12 Verse 31 English Standard Version) “Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out.” (John Chapter 14 Verse 30 English Standard Version) “I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me.” (John Chapter 16 Verse 11 English Standard Version) “Concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.” Satan is called: the god of the world, as we read in (II Corinthians Chapter 4 Verse 4 Bible in Basic English) “Because the god of this world has made blind the minds of those who have not faith, so that the light of the good news of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, might not be shining on them.” Satan is also called: the prince of the power of the air, as we read in (Ephesians Chapter 2 Verse 2 English Standard Version) “In which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.”

He is also called: cosmic power over darkness, as we read in (Ephesians Chapter 6 Verse 12 English Standard Version) “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” We should see that satan does have power, which is spoke of in, (Luke Chapter 4 Verses 5 Through 7 Bible in Basic English) “And he took him up and let him see all the kingdoms of the earth in a minute of time. And the Evil One said, I will give you authority over all these, and the glory of them, for it has been given to me, and I give it to anyone at my pleasure. If then you will give worship to me, it will all be yours.” So we can see that satan does have power, but he does not, and has never been more powerful than Jesus who is God in the flesh, satan cannot give Jesus, something that He, Jesus, already owns.

We read that Jesus is God in our Bible in (John Chapter 1 Verses 1 Through 14 Bible in Basic English) “From the first he was the Word, and the Word was in relation with God and was God. This Word was from the first in relation with God. All things came into existence through him, and without him nothing was. What came into existence in him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light goes on shining in the dark; it is not overcome by the dark. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came for witness, to give witness about the light, so that all men might have faith through him. He himself was not the light: he was sent to give witness about the light. The true light, which gives light to every man, was then coming into the world. He was in the world, the world which came into being through him, but the world had no knowledge of him. He came to the things which were his and his people did not take him to their hearts. To all those who did so take him, however, he gave the right of becoming children of God—that is, to those who had faith in his name: Whose birth was from God and not from blood, or from an impulse of the flesh and man's desire. And so the Word became flesh and took a place among us for a time; and we saw his glory—such glory as is given to an only son by his father—saw it to be true and full of grace.”

So with that being said, satan cannot be more powerful than God, than Jesus, since Jesus is God, and God has made satan, and God always was, always is, and always will be, how can satan be more powerful, than the One who created him, he cannot. So satan cannot give power, or authority over to God, or anyone else for that matter, the following Bible scriptures explains this truth, as we see in (Daniel Chapter 2 Verses 20 Through 21 Bible in Basic English) “And Daniel said in answer, May the name of God be praised for ever and ever: for wisdom and strength are his: By him times and years are changed: by him kings are taken away and kings are lifted up: he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those whose minds are awake.” Also in (Daniel Chapter 4 Verse 17 Bible in Basic English) “This order is fixed by the watchers, and the decision is by the word of the holy ones: so that the living may be certain that the Most High is ruler over the kingdom of men, and gives it to any man at his pleasure, lifting up over it the lowest of men.” Also in (Proverbs Chapter 21 Verse 1 English Standard Version) “The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.”

Again in (Psalms Chapter 2 Verses 2 Through 4 English Standard Version) “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us." He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. And in (Psalms Chapter 33 Verses 10 Through 11 English Standard Version) “The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.” All these Bible scriptures prove us that God is sovereign over satans world power. I personally believe that these Bible scriptures also show that satan is a lair, and manipulator of the truth, just saying to Jesus that he could give Him anything, is a lie, if it were not for God, there would be no satan, so how could he give something, that he did not create, he cant.

God is also sovereign over all of satans angles, we must remember that when satan was thrown out of Heaven, that he, and his angles were thrown out, as we read in (Revelation Chapter 12 Verses 7 Through 12 English Standard Version) “Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”

So satan has thousands of angles her with him on Earth, which are also called, demons, as we read in (Matthew Chapter 8 Verses 31 English Standard Version) “And the demons begged him, saying, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs." And also in (James Chapter 2 Verses 19 English Standard Version) “You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!” They are also called, evil spirits, as we see in (Luke Chapter 7 Verses 21 English Standard Version) “In that hour he healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind he bestowed sight.” Are also called unclean spirits, as we see in (Matthew Chapter 10 Verses 1 English Standard Version) “And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.” And are called the devil, and his angles, as we read in (Matthew Chapter 25 Verse 41 English Standard Version) “"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” We even read that when an angle of God does battle with one of satans angles that the angle of God is more powerful, as we read in (Daniel Chapter 10 Verse 13 English Standard Version) “The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia.”

We continue to see that Jesus is sovereign over satan, and his angles when we read (Matthew Chapter 8 Verses 29 Through 32 English Standard Version) ”And behold, they cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?" Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged him, saying, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs." And he said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.” There is literately no question who is sovereign in the battles between satan, his angles, and our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ, even the people who witnessed these things spoke of His power, as we see in (Mark Chapter 1 Verse 27 English Standard Version) “And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him."

God is sovereign over satan’s hand in persecution, Peter one of the Apostles of Jesus Christ explains suffering for a Christian, as we see in (I Peter Chapter 5 Verses 8 Through 9 English Standard Version) "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.” Do Christians suffer from the persecution of satan without the sovereignty of God? When Satan attempts to crush Christians with suffering, does God not govern these sufferings for the good of his Christian people? The following Bible scripture gives answer to this, as we read in (I Peter Chapter 3 Verse 17 English Standard Version) "For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil.” On the night that Jesus was arrested, satan, and his full measure of power was being used against Jesus, as we see in (Luke Chapter 22 Verse 3 And Verse 31 English Standard Version) “Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.” “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat.”

But Jesus spoke with sovereignty against the situation. As we read in (Luke Chapter 22 Verses 52 Through 53 English Standard Version) “Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness." Stana thought that he had power over Jesus, power to control the situation with regards to the life of Jesus, but Jesus informs us all of the truth of who has control of His life, in any situation, as we read in (John Chapter 10 Verse 18 English Standard Version) “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father." Also in (I Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 5 English Standard Version) “You are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.” And in (John Chapter 13 Verse 27 English Standard Version) “Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him.” Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly.”

God is Sovereign over satan's life taking power, the Bible does not try to down play the ability that satan has the power to take a persons life, as Jesus said in (John Chapter 8 Verse 44 Bible in Basic English) “You are the children of your father the Evil One and it is your pleasure to do his desires. From the first he was a taker of life; and he did not go in the true way because there is no true thing in him. When he says what is false, it is natural to him, for he is false and the father of what is false.” Even the Apostle John tell us that satan takes the life's of Christians, as we read in (Revelation Chapter 2 Verse 10 Bible in Basic English) “Have no fear of the things which you will have to undergo: see, the Evil One will send some of you into prison, so that you may be put to the test; and you will have great trouble for ten days. Be true till death, and I will give you the crown of life.” But even though this may be all true, God is still the one, and only Lord over every aspect of life, and death, as we see in (Deuteronomy Chapter 32 Verses 39 Through 43 Bible in Basic English) “See now, I myself am he; there is no other god but me: giver of death and life, wounding and making well: and no one has power to make you free from my hand. For lifting up my hand to heaven I say, By my unending life, If I make sharp my shining sword, and my hand is outstretched for judging, I will give punishment to those who are against me, and their right reward to my haters. I will make my arrows red with blood, my sword will be feasting on flesh, with the blood of the dead and the prisoners, of the long-haired heads of my haters. Be glad, O you his people, over the nations; for he will take payment for the blood of his servants, and will give punishment to his haters, and take away the sin of his land, for his people.” There is nothing that can take the life of any person, that God Wills to be alive, not false god, not any demon, and no, not even satan himself, as we read in (I Samuel Chapter 2 Verse 6 Through 9 Bible in Basic English) “The Lord is the giver of death and life: sending men down to the underworld and lifting them up. The Lord gives wealth and takes a man's goods from him: crushing men down and again lifting them up; Lifting the poor out of the dust, and him who is in need out of the lowest place, to give them their place among rulers, and for their heritage the seat of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord's and he has made them the base of the world. He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the evil-doers will come to their end in the dark night, for by strength no man will overcome.”

We also see this in (James Chapter 4 Verses 13 Through 17 Bible in Basic English) “How foolish it is to say, Today or tomorrow we will go into this town, and be there for a year and do business there and get wealth: When you are not certain what will take place tomorrow. What is your life? It is a mist, which is seen for a little time and then is gone. But the right thing to say would be, If it is the Lord's pleasure and if we are still living, we will do this and that. But now you go on glorying in your pride: and all such glorying is evil. The man who has knowledge of how to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” If it is the will of God, for us to live, then we will live. And if it is not the Will of God for us to live then we will die. God is in control, not Satan, God makes the final decision for all peoples, and things, not satan. Our lives are totally one hundred percent in the hands of God, not in the hands of Satan. God is sovereign over satan.

God is sovereign over satan’s power of natural disasters, wild fires, volcano's, earthquakes, tornado's, deadly drought, deadly waves of heat, freezing weather conditions, uncontrollable floods, or widespread hunger, all of these may happen, but God still has supreme power, and authority over satan, and his power of natural disasters. In the Bible, we see that much of this happened to Job, and all is allowed by God to take place, as a test of the faith of Job. But still God being all powerful, even over satan, he has to ask the permission of God to bring these things to Job, as we read in (Job Chapter 1 Verses 6 Through 11 King James Version) "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.”
God allowed this to take place to Job, so that through the actions, the faith of the servant of the Lord, Job, would be shown strongest, and because our Lord, God is absolutely in power over, in command of satan, God instructed that all that Job has is his to take, but not to touch Jobs life, and this satan had to follow, because God is sovereign over satan, as we see in (Job Chapter 1 Verse 12 King James Version) “And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.” Satan responded will physical aliments against Job, also war came from people who meant to do harm, and natural disasters. This we see in (Job Chapter 1 Verses 13 Trough 19 Kings James Version) “And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.” This would be enough to drive a man to suicide, to speak harshly to God, or even vengeful murder, but Job did not do any of these things, but Job knowing that God has all authority, and power (sovereign) worshiped, and did not curse, or sin against God, as we see in (Job Chapter 1 Verses 20 Through 22 King James Version) “Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.”

What Job had found out is that it will not bring any relief to focus on the destruction that satan to had brought against him, or his family. Rather Job looks toward God for the power that He has, and knowledge of His mercy. Elihu helped Job to see this Mercy shown from God, as we read in (Job Chapter 37 Verses 10 through 24 King James Version) “By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened. Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud: And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth. He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy. Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God. Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine? Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge? How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind? Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass? Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness. Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up. And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them. Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.

Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict. Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.” We know for certain that God was Merciful to Job through all of these afflictions, and how do we prove this in the Bible, by using the Bible, we see that the Apostle James tells us this, as we read in (James Chapter 5 Verse 11 King James Version) “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.” God, not satan is the power, final authority, having the sovereignty over satan, and total control of the entire situation, as we see in (Job Chapter 42 Verses 10 Through 17 Bible in Basic English) “And the Lord made up to Job for all his losses, after he had made prayer for his friends: and all Job had before was increased by the Lord twice as much. And all his brothers and sisters, and his friends of earlier days, came and took food with him in his house; and made clear their grief for him, and gave him comfort for all the evil which the Lord had sent on him; and they all gave him a bit of money and a gold ring. And the Lord's blessing was greater on the end of Job's life than on its start: and so he came to have fourteen thousand sheep and goats, and six thousand camels, and two thousand oxen, and a thousand she-asses. And he had seven sons and three daughters. And he gave the first the name of Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch; And there were no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job in all the earth: and their father gave them a heritage among their brothers. And after this Job had a hundred and forty years of life, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations. And Job came to his end, old and full of days.

We have seen that there is an allowance of satan, by our Lord God, to bring to us the situations in our life, that may be unbearable for us to even think of, or even consider that the Lord our God, could ever allow. When these evils come to us, as humans we never tend to think of the end result, and this especially when we are right at the beginning of what seems to be the worst even unimaginable time in our life's. But we must somewhere in our minds dedicate a portion of remembrance to the fact that all is done to Glorify the most perfect, and Holy name of our Lord God, our creator, our everything, our all, and with this remembrance, we need to know that God has all the sovereignty over everything in our life's weather it would be, persecution, or weather it be, life, or weather it be death, or weather it be, natural disasters, or weather it be, evil spirits, or weather it be, fallen angles, and even if it be satan himself.
